After starting church together, our kids & youth head out with qualified leaders for an age-appropriate program.

Preschool – Kindy*
Juniors (year 1 – 3)
Middle (year 4 – 8)

These ages are guides. If your child is bringing a friend who’s in the year above/below, we’d love to keep them together at kids church.

*Includes a simple dinner just to fill their tummy.

1. Come and speak to Beck Bishop, our assistant pastor who oversees SRE.
2. Obtain your Working with Children number from Service NSW, and have it verified through Foundry church.
3. Complete the Foundry Safe Ministry training online. This includes agreeing to adhere to our Code of Conduct, and providing two character referees to confirm your eligibility to work with children and vulnerable people.
4. Complete SRE teacher training through PYNSW, which follows the ICCOREIS Basic Training Standard and includes a lesson observation. Forward your certificate of completion to Beck Bishop.
5. Receive your SRE authorisation card and name badge from the Foundry pastoral team.
6. Shadow an authorised SRE teacher until you are confident and competent to teach your own class. Our 2 SRE coordinators mentor the SRE teachers at Foundry church.

Ongoing Training

Ongoing training covers the following four areas: Child Protection (including mandatory reporting), Classroom Management, age appropriate and sensitive use of Curriculum, and Code of Conduct (including complaints procedure).

Beck Bishop will gather the SRE teachers together each April, as part of their mentoring, to ensure training happens in at least one of these four areas every year.

In addition we encourage our SRE teachers to attend the Hunter Christian SRE ongoing training events each year.

Expectations of ongoing training will be communicated to potential SRE teachers, newly authorised as well as existing SRE teachers, and we will also monitor and follow up on all these training requirements.

Review & Annual Assurance

1. Every year one of our SRE coordinators will conduct a classroom observation of each of our SRE teachers, to assist in mentoring and training the teacher.
2. Our SRE teachers will undertake regular self-reflection on the teaching and curriculum, making use of the self-reflection forms at the end of each teaching unit in the GODSPACE curriculum.
3. In November Beck Bishop will survey our SRE teachers to identify their needs for ongoing training and support.
4. This self-reflection, classroom observation and survey will form the basis of our annual assurance.

Reauthorisation

Every 3 years renewal training is undertaken either online through PYNSW, or face to face through Hunter Christian SRE who invite SRE Essentials or members of ICCOREIS to provide the training.

The Foundry church SRE coordinators will remind you when your refresher training is required, and upcoming training sessions can be found on the Hunter Christian SRE website.

Foundry church uses Safe Ministry Check to ensure all our members involved in SRE have up to date WWCC and Safe Ministry training.
